Rewriting the script; RSS reader

I’m not a programmer. I don’t claim to be, I won’t pretend to be, and don’t want to be. That being said, occasionally I come up with the need for a program… One that much to my annoyance I can’t find already written.
So, I can’t find a program to do what I want to do. I find myself trapped inside a bash terminal writing said program. It’s acutally just putting together a bunch of other programs with some scripting. So, I’ve got it mostly put together. But I can’t find a command line RSS reader to do exactly what I want to do; and I don’t have the time or patience to write the whole CLI rss feed reader.

I do have a simplistic perl script written using the XML package to parse rss to plain text. But I really need a rss reader that can be called via command line, read the feeds, and output any new items to stdout or a file.

If anyone has seen such code, send me a note.

I’m going to be putting this together with some other scripts and packages and integrating them with voice recognition and text to speech packages.

anyway… back to the code.
