BetaNews | Oracle Makes Play for Red Hat’s Support Contracts
“So why would we buy Red Hat Linux, when we can just take it for nothing?”
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has a bit of a point. One that I failed to touch on when I last wrote about Oracle and the Red Hat buyout rumors.
Interesting business model; take their software (perfectly legit) and support it cheaper when packaged in with one of the best database platforms used by enterprise level shops. So after taking away a large percentage of the support you then have a chance to pay less money for a struggling business rather than an inflated price for king of the hill.
We’ll see if it pans out, but I assume that’s their plan.
I’m sure I’ll hear about this one tomorrow in my inbox. oh and Long Live Red Hat!
